We aim to give Wetsuits a second life and enable less fortunate kiwis to live a better life through a connection with the ocean.
As surfing is a highly sensory and physical activity, it allows participants to disconnect from the day to day. We live fairly busy lives and understand the benefits of being able to get away from it all and immerse ourselves in mother nature.
Unfortunately, for the majority of Wetsuits, the core ingredient of a wetsuit is neoprene foam. Neoprene is a particularly unpleasant synthetic rubber made from petroleum. If Second Suits can improve the life span of a wetsuit, and keep Wetsuits out of landfill, it will go some way to prevent 350 tonnes of wetsuits going into landfill every year.
With 90 drownings in NZ waters last year alone, and with a lot of coastline around NZ being cold for the majority of the year, it is paramount we enable kiwis to access the water throughout the year and become more comfortable in the ocean.
How It Works
-
1
Register your workplace or organisation to be a collection point for a second suits bin (register here.
We will be in touch to find a suitable time to deliver your new collection bin.
-
2
We'll send you some communications to send out via your channels. You can update your contacts of when your bin will arrive, how it all works, and a few more details on the tvpes of suits we'll accept.
-
3
We drop off the bin at your workplace.
-
4
When drops are made, donors can optionally submit details on themselves and the suit. If someone opts in, we will do our best to let them know where their suit ends up.
After an agreed period (or when the bin is full) we will come and collect the suits and the bin.
-
5
We sort the suits and send them out to our partners located around NZ who will find your wetsuit a new home.
